Halloween Task Cards and Writing Activities
These Halloween task cards reinforce important ELA skills as you assess how well students organize their thoughts and ideas. Included are step- by- step instructions of how to write a Halloween story and how to plan a spooky Halloween party.

The Halloween task cards motivate reluctant writers to join in the fun! Note-taking task cards for pre-writing activities include plot, characters, and settings. Other cards ask students to dress up their stories with spooky nouns, verbs, and adjectives
Halloween lined paper for the final copy of the story is included.

How to Plan a Spooky Halloween Party is designed so each paragraph begins with transition words or phrases to help students write well developed stories.

Open-ended activities dare your students to stretch their imaginations to finish each of the statements or story starter sentences. Illustration templates are provided for student pictures.

Please note -The opacity of the clip art is lessened so students can write over the images on some cards.

Some of the story starters are:
A conversation between two pumpkins using dialogue bubbles
Text messages between a monster and an alien
The Little Monster’s Band song lyrics
A Mysterious Halloween package
Advice from a Wise Old Owl
How to Make Spider Web Cupcakes
The Day Frank N. Stein Moved Next Door
How to do the Skeleton Dance
Would you rather take a ride on a witch’s broom or blast into space in a flying saucer?
A Monster Haiku
Directions to Wanda Witch’s Haunted Castle
A Day in the Life of a Ghost

There are also two cards with photos that ask students to draw inferences and to determine the author's purpose.

Halloween backgrounds are in color and black and white. Decorated cards with Halloween borders are provided for students’ illustrations of the task cards. Students can play Halloween Tic Tac Toe using witch and ghost markers.
