In Kindergarten I used predictable charts. We would make one each week.
It usually went along with a theme or what we were studying. For Halloween we created a favorite treat book focusing on the sight words my, was, a.
Day 1- Each student dictates a sentence and I write it on chart paper.
Day 2- Each student will track print and read his or her sentence.
Day 3- Choose several sentences, write on a sentence strip and cut apart the words. Mix up the words and have several students come up and build the sentence.
Day 4- Type up the sentences for each student. Give each child their sentence and have them cut apart the sentence. Mix and fix the sentence, then glue onto the paper.
Day 5- Each student will illustrate their page for our classroom book.
We keep all the books we make in our classroom library. Every night a new student gets to take a book home. The children love sharing these books with their families. At the end of the school year I would have enough books to give as a gift to each child.
I used binders and sheet inserts to create the books. This helped keep the books in tip top shape.
