Candy Corn Shades of Meaning: This set of cards should be cut on the dotted line. Students put the puzzles together, using the meanings of the words as clues. When the puzzles are completed, students can record their work on the candy corn page. Then, they can choose their favorite combination to use in their writing.

Noun Sort: Students sort common and proper nouns. To reinforce understanding, students can scan a QR code and watch a short video about common and proper nouns.

a Schoolhouse Rock video about nouns, and then re-read the book to find the
best nouns. Then, students create a short story using those nouns. No prep!
