Halloween Writing for First Grade is filled with writing activities with a Halloween theme. • How many words can you make from the letters in JACK-O-LANTERN? - cut the letters out and use them to make words from the letters in “jack-o-lantern.” Write the words in the space provided.

• BBBB BOO! writing – write about a ghost.

• A Jack-o-Lantern Description – Finish the jack-o-lantern. Give the jack-o-lantern a name, eyes, nose, and mouth. Describe the jack-o-lantern.

• Colors of Halloween – complete the sentences about the colors associated with Halloween.

• How to Carve a Pumpkin – draw and write about the steps needed to carve a pumpkin.

• Halloween nouns and adjectives – write a list of nouns and adjectives that describe Halloween.

• Fun Halloween Activities nouns and verbs – write a list of nouns and verbs that describe fun Halloween activities.

• A Halloween {acrostic} Poem - write phrases that describe Halloween and begin with each of the letters in Halloween.

• I can read a Halloween book. – write and illustrate a favorite part of a Halloween book.

• Retell a Halloween Story - retell a Halloween story by writing about and illustrating the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

• My Halloween Costume – write about and draw a picture of your Halloween costume.

• Costumes on Parade – trace and complete sentences about Halloween costumes.

• Halloween Things – write and illustrate lists of Halloween costumes and decorations.

• I can write Halloween sentences. – write a sentence for each of the given Halloween words.

• A Halloween Story - draw and label the setting, character(s), problem, and solution of a Halloween story. Evaluate the story.

• All About Skeletons – write facts about skeletons.

• Learning About Skeletons - read a non-fiction book about skeletons. Write and illustrate facts about them.

• Funny Bones – Draw a picture of a funny skeleton. Describe the skeleton.

• Writing About Spiders – use the word bank to write about spiders. Illustrate the writing.

• Spider Facts – write four facts about spiders.

• Compare and Contrast Spiders and Insects – draw and/or write what is the same and different about spiders and insects {makes a great partner activity}.

• How to Dress a Witch – cut and glue pictures to show how to dress a witch. Write sentences to describe each picture.

• Witches Brew – write what you would put inside a witches brew.

• can read about bats. – draw and label the setting, character(s), problem, and solution of a bat story.

• All About Bats – write a main idea and details about bats.

• I can write about bats. – read, write, and share about bats.

• Compare and Contrast Bats and Cats – draw and/or write what is the same and different about bats and cats {makes a great partner activity}.

• Writing Center Printables – Halloween notes and writing paper to use at a writing center.
