Some fun, hands-on Autumn science with a STEM aspect! Students build boats out of aluminum foil that will hold their cargo: candy corns! There are solid engineering and surface area aspects to this activity when students compare a small 4x4 cm boat to a larger 8x8 cm boat. You could also hold a contest to see which larger boat holds the must number of candy corns!
All the science behind the activity is explained and extension ideas are offered. The result table is provided that includes a small writing question. When students finish, they can work on the provided activity worksheet. Answer key included.
For an extra, there is a Venn diagram where students compare candy corn to regular corn.
