Rise Up! Using Hamilton in the classroom will invigorate your students’ learning. This lesson focuses on the songs, “When the World Turns Upside Down,” and “My Shot” from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical extraordinaire, Hamilton.

The EDITABLE lesson contains a viewing of two videos of the cast performing some of the audience and fan favorites and follow up discussion questions regarding the context with modern, current event connections. An excerpt from Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton, the historical biography which inspired Miranda to write the musical is included along with a multiple choice reading practice with an answer key. A biographical video from Bio.com is part of the lesson along with a viewing guide and an answer key. Students will also read some of Hamilton’s original documents in the form of letters to his fiancée then wife, Elizabeth.
