Since Shakespeare is a difficult text for any student (regular, honors, or Advanced Placement), I have always given my students guided reading questions to aid in their comprehension. We usually discuss these questions first then enter into deeper analysis questions once I am confident that they comprehend the plot of the text.
This document contains guided reading questions for Act 1, Scenes 4-5 of Shakespeare's Hamlet. There are handouts for students as well as a key for teachers. The citations come from the No Fear Edition of the text. I have several items for sale that deal with this text. Since this is Shakespeare's longest play, there are so many different activities that can be used to teach the unit. Although they complain during the first few scenes, my students ultimately love the text.
