This is a creative project I have my students work on after we've read Act I and II of Hamlet. I give my students two different avenues through which to recreate Hamlet's conflicting and dramatic emotions in the first two soliloquies in the play: creation of a modern song in any genre or creation or original art. Both of these include a written component and rationale.
This can be used as a formative or summative assessment tool to check for understanding depending on how much time you've spent assessing the first two acts prior to giving this creative piece.
The students can work in groups; I have them work in the same group I've put them in for pre-reading activities, and then they deliver their art performances or projects to the class as a group.
