This breakout activity from Claudius' soliloquy provides three levels of learning. The activities could be combined in an effort of differentiation or completed one after another to increase comprehension. The three levels include:
- Intervention/Remedial - Four close reading questions developing an analysis of Claudius' feelings of contentment and guilt in Act III.
- Creative Writing - This enhancement activity asks students to rewrite Claudius' soliloquy in a different form of writing. Use of technology and creative techniques is encouraged.
- Advanced/Analytical/AP Level - This writing prompt asks students to analyze the purpose of Claudius remaining a static character in the full plot of Hamlet. This question ties into the AP Lit CED (CHA 1.B) if being used in AP Lit courses.
An answer key is included for all three responses.
