Product Description
Inspired by the Performance Task at the end of Act 2 from the 12th-grade "Collections" textbook, this activity transforms a discussion into a creative writing activity in which students contemplate Hamlet's plan to test his uncle's guilt through the performance of "The Murder of Gonzago."

Students first discuss and provide a summary of Hamlet's plan, then they write a creative response of at least one page in length changing this element of the plot. Instead of implementing his time-consuming plan, Hamlet instead gets revenge on Claudius immediately, and students' responses will feature their hypothesized versions of the subsequent events. This could be considered a journal activity, writing prompt, creative writing prompt, or even a multimedia story assignment (if students choose to use visuals, as well).
