This is a thorough unit on Hamlet which includes A LOT of comprehension materials (let's face it, Shakespeare is hard for high school students; they’re not all planning on being English majors or experts in Elizabethan language). It also contains a variety of higher-level writing assignments, literary criticism analysis, and literary critique writing.
NOTE: My students have already spent 6 weeks learning about and completing assignments regarding literary criticism. We focused on Feminist, Marxist, and Psycho-analytic criticisms. I provide an overview of information on these 3 areas (embedded in the necessary lesson plans), but they are very basic. As a small part of this unit deals with reading and writing criticism of the play through these 3 “lenses”, I would highly recommend teaching the criticism unit first (which can be purchased through Teachers Pay Teachers for $28). You CAN teach this Hamlet unit without the prior criticism lessons.
