This handout introduces students to Hamlet's iconic "To be, or not to be" soliloquy, and includes:
1) Introduction to soliloquies, including necessary terminology to differentiate between inward and outward soliloquies.
2) Additional information to help students link the soliloquies to major themes of the play.
3) A section-by-section break-down of the soliloquy. Each part is accompanied by comprehension questions and encourages students to closely read and respond to the soliloquy.
