Hammurabi's Code & Student Judges! Students give punishments! Hammurabi's Code!
This Hammurabi's Code lesson is included in the much larger Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia Bundle, located here:
Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia Bundle! 10 Fun Resources for Egypt & Mesopotamia!
In this highly-engaging Hammurabi's Code lesson, students are placed at the center of instruction as they investigate Hammurabi's Code!
Students take on the role of judges and interpret six different scenarios of criminal behavior. Then, students (or partner groups) deliver a "sentence" to each criminal that they believe to be fair. Once all scenarios have been judged, students navigate throughout the room, analyzing excerpts from Hammurabi's Code to determine how these criminals would have been punished in Ancient Babylonia!
Once complete, students debrief the activity with observation and analytical questions of Hammurabi's Code!
Tons of fun and Common Core focused! Enjoy!
