Product Description
This weekly lesson plan goes along with the common core curriculum map for 2nd grade: Hand-Me-Down-Tales From Around The World. It is the FIFTH week in my Hand-Me-Down-Tales Unit.

In this weekly lesson plan, students will read 3 poems by Robert Louis Stevenson. They will read and respond to each poem. Students will compare and contrast two of Robert Louis Stevenson's poems. They will create an Acrostic Poem using a topic word from one of the poems. At the end of the week, students will choose one poem to rewrite and illustrate. They will use glue and watercolors to finish the picture. Students will present their picture to the class while reading the poem orally.

By the end of the week, they are able to:
analyze the meaning and structure of a poem.
answer text-based questions related to a poem.
create an Acrostic Poem about a topic.
illustrate a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson.
orally present their final project to the class.

+1 student response booklet template to copy for each student - the booklet is formatted to be printed front and back so that when you fold it all the pages line up. You don't have to print it as a book. You could copy it and cut the pages so that the students can paste them into their reading journals.


The Common Core Standards addressed are:
RL.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

RL.2.4 Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.

RL.2.7 Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
