Hand signals are a great way for students to communicate their needs without interrupting the flow of a classroom discussion or small group instruction.
The posters provide the written word, a visual of the hand signal, and a visual of the students need. This is a great way to support English Language Learners. The following signs are included:
closed fist = tissue
1 finger = nurse
2 fingers = pencil
2 fingers crossed = restroom
3 fingers = water
4 fingers = book
5 fingers = question
I chose to print the pages and tape them together to make a vertical strip.
You may laminate for durability. These are posted near our classroom rules and are a great visual reminder for students to stay in the habit of using non-verbal hand signals.
