This is a week long literacy unit geared toward first and second grade.
In this unit students will read all about their amazing hands on 4 pages of reading printables. From talking, caring, protecting, building, and eating, our hands make it all possible! With this topic of hands, we can cover many standards, have fun, and learn TONS!
This unit takes the fun concept of our hands and includes components to hit many of your standards through vocabulary, writing, reading, word study, and even a cute poem too!
This activity is centered around motivating students to write a narrative including feelings and vocabulary. Students each get to choose a feeling word and then create a picture showing how they express that feeling. A pair of hands gets added to the picture to show how they "talk with their hands" It makes an adorable bulletin board and writing piece for their portfolios.
Students also explore the many words that have the word hand as a root word.
Fun phrases with the word "hand" can be discussed and hung to enhance your week of learning and classroom space! You'll really have the "upper hand"...
Be sure to look at the preview file to see the common core standards covered and examples of each component of this unit!
