This is a handout I use in my own 10th grade classroom-- I made it because I wanted students to really tune in to the imagery and tone of this poem, and I didn't think the questions in our textbook did it justice. The imagery does all the work in the poem! There are 8 numbered questions with various subquestions. The handout is in Word in case you want to add or tweak anything.
After reading the poem, I always have my students write their own autobiographical ballads (listed separately on TpT), and those poems are some of the most detailed, moving pieces I see all year.
