This resource is a visual and active approach to teaching split digraphs. Students say the three-letter word, then put the 'e' at the end and say the word again with the new vowel sound to help enforce their understanding of split digraphs. There are 12 pages of CVC words and 5 pages of E's.
This resource offers a choice of terminology to work with your phonics program and personal preference. Options include Super E, Silent E, Sneaky E, Bossy E, Magic E and a Simple E if you prefer to call it a split digraph.
The word pages are ready to print and laminate for durability. Print which style of E you prefer then cut and laminate. A Velcro dot holds the E’s well on the charts. The E's are also suitable to add to a wand.
My products are designed in a clear, uncluttered format in Queensland Beginner Font, utilising graphic organisers. The language in this resource is based on UK spelling and is formatted for A4 paper.
Once students are familiar with the split digraph, they will be able to notice it in words and sound it out, along with the other digraphs in the word. Students will then progress to attempting to spell words with split digraphs.
