Product Description
This fractions resource includes two hands-on math centers that are sure to get your students excited about learning fractions! They are ideal for second or third grade math workshop.

The first activity includes eight fraction task cards. Students build a tower to match the picture shown on each card and answer three fraction-related questions about the tower on the recording sheet.

The second activity includes eight additional task cards. This set of cards asks students to build a tower that is described and color the tower on the recording sheet to match the one that they have built.

---

To prepare these centers, laminate and cut out the fraction task cards, copy recording sheets, and provide red, yellow, blue, and white blocks. (In my own classroom, I place three Legos of each color in a snack-sized plastic bag, so each student has his or her own manipulatives to work with.)

Answer keys for each activity are also provided.

---

These activities address the following Common Core Standards:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.G.A.3: Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.1: Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.
