Product Description
Have you ever envied the math teachers that get to do all of the fun hands-on lessons? I know I have! Being departmentalized, I always miss the hands-on experiences from Math and Science.

I am bringing Hand-On Reading (Cause and Effect) to you!

Included:
-THREE levels of task card passages. (2nd, 3rd, and 4th)
-Instructions for the students.
-Instructions and pictures for the teacher.
-Rubric included on the task card for easy assessment of mastery.

What is Hands-On Cause and Effect?

A Cause and Effect lesson that will allow students to read a passage, construct a graphic organizer with their hands and some simple supplies, then complete their graphic organizer.

Instructions:

-Pass out a reading task card to each student. Cards are differentiated in three -different levels. Level=Grade Level.
-Pass out a bag with the Graphic Organizer Supplies to each student.
-Supplies:
--Six dominoes per student
--Washi or painter’s tape
--Sharpie marker
-Each student will read the task card.
-Students will look at the BUILD YOUR GRAPHIC ORGANIZER card and construct their graphic organizer.
-Students will cover the back of each domino in tape.
-On the first one in each pair, students will write a cause and on the partner domino, they will write the effect to that cause. (They can use keywords, it doesn’t have to be full sentences.)
-Example: Raining/Ground Wet
-Students will make sure the cause/effects are from the text though.
-When they are done, the students can set their dominos up and knock them down!

The kids will be highly engaged and will love working with their hands. Building the graphic organizers also makes the graphic organizer more meaningful to the students.
