I am bringing Hand-On Reading (Text Features) to you!

Included:
-ONE Task Card with Text Feature Examples. (appropriate for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th)
-Instructions for the students.
-Instructions and pictures for the teacher.
-Rubric included on the task card for easy assessment of mastery.

What is Hands-On Text Features?

A Text Features lesson that will allow students to read a passage, construct a graphic organizer with their hands and some simple supplies, then complete their graphic organizer.

Instructions:

-Pass out a reading task card to each student. Cards are differentiated in three -different levels. Level=Grade Level.
-Pass out a bag with the Graphic Organizer Supplies to each student.
-Supplies:
--8 Clear Plastic Cups (per student)
--8 Paper Clips
--Scissors
--Each student will read the task card.
--The students will set out 8 clear cups.
--The students will cut out the text feature labels.
--Then they will use the paper clips to clip the text feature labels to the rim of the cups.
--Next, they will cut out the text feature examples.
--Place the examples in the different cups.
--After their work has been checked, they will take apart their cup and labels.

The kids will be highly engaged and will love working with their hands. Building the graphic organizers also makes the graphic organizer more meaningful to the students.
