Easy middle school heat lab! Engaging and hands-on, but uses very uncomplicated supplies!
You need balloons, a ruler, and cold water - that's it! Use this quick activity to teach about thermal expansion and particle motion. The activity worksheet instructs students to change the temperature of a balloon and measure the contraction or expansion that results. We often use this as a station with this Bimetallic Strip Activity
and our Clicking Coins Activity
We highly recommend this Insulator/Conductor Lab and this STEM Insulator Device Design Challenge Project!
