Easy yet effective thermal expansion heat lab - engaging and hands-on, but uses very uncomplicated supplies!
Use this quick activity as a nice visual of thermal expansion and particle motion. The activity worksheet instructs students to change the temperature of a balloon and measure the contraction or expansion that results. Because this is a quick activity, we often use this as a station with this Bimetallic Strip Activity and our Clicking Coins Activity.
Materials: balloon, measuring tape (we included a printable one), cold water or ice
