Complete your geology unit with hands-on earth science activities! Kids love will love the rocks and minerals unit, earth’s layers activities, and interactive weathering presentation. A bonus card sort activity asks students to sort photographs that depict weathering, erosion and deposition.
Created by master teacher Brenda Kovich, these activities are classroom tested and kid approved.
- Rocks and Minerals Unit – Kids explore rocks with articles, activities, games, and assessments. This rock unit can be used in a stand-alone sequence or added to your longer earth systems unit.
- Earth’s Layers Activities - Three activities provide basic knowledge and understanding of four layers of the earth: crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core. Students learn the thickness, temperature, and composition of each layer, and get a brief introduction to the lithosphere and asthenosphere.
- Interactive Weathering PowerPoint Presentation - Because of its close relationship to erosion, weathering is a difficult concept to grasp. The process of concept attainment will help your students understand the difference. What is concept attainment? It’s a powerful research-based strategy that encourages students to generate and consider their own hypotheses.
- Bonus – This card sorting activity is only available as part of this bundle. Students sort 20 photographs into three categories: weathering, erosion, or deposition.
