This file includes a model of organization for an expository essay that is NOT text based and another copy for you (or your students) to cut up for a hands-on activity.
The included essay is a basic essay (not a polished one) that I think will be easier to dissect for organization purposes. It is a model for organization.
The prompt is: Everyone has things that are special to them. Choose one and write an essay to explain why that one thing is special to you.
Following the model essay (again, this is a model of organization only) is another copy of the essay that you could copy, cut up and put in envelopes. This way students could work cooperatively to put the essay in order onto a large piece of construction paper.
After students have finished organizing their essay, then you can show them the model essay and they can see how well they performed. This will naturally lead to a "real" conversation about organization too. :)
Thanks and Enjoy!
