Every teacher knows that having a solid understanding of letters and sounds is essential for reading and writing. Your kids will love these fun hands on phonics activities that will develop their reading and writing skills and build their confidence. This resource would be a great to include during literacy rotations.
This free resource includes the first level which has a focus on short vowel sounds. There are 16 words to each level. The full resource, which is available for purchase, has a total of 24 levels and is comprised over 250 pages.
Students use hands on letters to match the picture sounds and build words. Underneath each picture place the letter that the picture begins. Students will then be able to sound out the entire word once all boxes have been assigned a letter. Students can then fill in the corresponding activity sheets to reinforce what they have learnt and record their work.
The full pack includes word cards for the following phonics areas:
• Short Vowels
• Magic E Words
• Long Vowels
Easy to cut, laminate and store in plastic envelopes or tubs.
Students in my classes have transferred the sounding out skills reinforced through the use of this resources, and have then applied their knowledge during both reading and writing activities. These students have displayed significant gains in both knowledge and confidence.
TIP: Full pack includes poster displaying pictures for each letter or phoneme. Expose whole class to pictures during introductory lesson. Possibly have available for students to refer back to in order to promote independent learning.
