This is a great way for your students to have hands-on practice with conjugating boot verbs, or stem-changing verbs! Simply print out the grid in the preview, have students cut up the rectangles to make little cards, and have them form the verbs from the Powerpoint using their cards.

Right after presenting the idea of conjugating stem-changing verbs and taking notes, I have my students practice with this Powerpoint. There are five sections: o-ue, u-ue, e-ie, e-i, and then one review section with fun pictures at the end.

I recommend splitting this activity into two days, by practicing the first two sections on the first day,and then practicing with the last three sections a day or two later. Students could paperclip their papelitos together after the first day, leave them in a box in class, and then pick them up when you resume the activity. Each day would take about 20 minutes.

This Powerpoint presentation begins with instructions for how students should cut up and organize their papelitos at their desks. Then, there are 30 practice verbs to form. Once students get the hang of conjugating the verbs, the last ten slides have scenes with stick figures with sentences that are missing the verb, so students can see how stem-changing verbs look in context.

This activity works well with the Realidades 1A chapter for Spanish 2, but it can easily be adapted to any unit focusing on conjugting stem-changing verbs. Again, download the preview for the paper that students cut up to make their papelitos.

If you'd like to save time cutting these up, have your first class of the day cut out the cards, paperclip them together after the activity, and donate them to the next class. Then, give a special treat to that first class, such as letting them skip five questions on their homework.
