In this hands-on activity, students will construct a box based on dimensions given. This packet includes handouts for 3 different sets of dimensions. They will use the dimensions to calculate the volume, area, and perimeter. The calculation of volume will be verified through the use of cm cubes. The calculation of perimeter will be verified through the use of a piece of string measured with a ruler.
Students will also practice unit conversions by converting the volume, area, and perimeter within the metric system. You may choose to allow the students to fill in the conversion charts as they go through the activity or you may save the conversion charts for last.
