Product Description

Capital letters for intermediate level handwriting - daily handwriting practice worksheets for preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students designed to enrich the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. These comprehensive worksheets cover reading, spelling, and handwriting. Designed for students who already have a grasp on their letters, but still need additional practice.

These practice sheets come in the HWT letter order of teaching new writers to form letters. It is suggested that students should learn the formation of capital letters before graduating to writing lower case letters. The capital letter teaching order helps teach correct formation and orientation while eliminating reversals. Learning capitals first makes the transition to lower case a much easier process.

These practice sheets are divided into three sections. The letter the student will be focusing on is at the top of the page inside of a circle border. Before beginning the worksheet, the student should trace the letter with his/her finger to get a feel for the correct stroke formation. Step-by-step numbers and arrows are there to assist with this.

On the first section of the worksheet, the student will trace and write the letter. Letter outlines, box handwriting guides, and starting dots will assist the student with their stroke formations, until the final area where the student will write the letter with no assistance.

On the second part of the worksheet, the student will find and circle the letter. The letters are intentionally mixed up in a variety of fonts and sizes. It is important that students can recognize the letter presented in a variety of styles and formats.

The last part of the worksheet directs the student to finish writing the word. They will write each word three times. The first time, they will write the letter using the box handwriting guides. The second time, they will use a starting dot to write the letter. The final time is writing the word with no handwriting prompts. Depending on the student’s ability, they may or may not be able to do this exercise. If the student is not ready for writing complete words, you can have them write just the letter on that line instead of the entire word.

There are so many benefits to daily handwriting practice. It is important for new writers to practice everyday for a short, focused time. Daily focused practice is an important long term component of building good handwriting skills. Many times children are taught each letter once with a page of practice and then it is assumed that they know how to write properly. Continued daily practice and attention to letter formation is required to develop good handwriting. These practice sheets will build your student's handwriting skills and confidence.
