I created this Trace, Read, Respond, Draw: Winter Edition product because every year, I have students who need to improve their handwriting skills. I wanted to create a product that would give students handwriting practice in a meaningful way. Instead of practicing writing letters and words in isolation, this product helps students LEARN science and social studies content while improving their handwriting!
Each paragraph in this pack is 3-4 sentences. Once students learn what they are expected to do, this pack makes a great center!
TRY BEFORE YOU BUY! I have included in the preview a free passage and response sheet for you to try with your students!
How to use this pack:
Trace: Students first trace the passage in order to focus on letter formation and increase their writing stamina!
Read: Students read the passage to gain a sense of the content. You can use the passages in this pack to reinforce social studies and science content you are teaching. Students color the first snowflake after the first read.
Highlight capital letters in Green: Reinforces capitalization at the beginning of each sentence and for proper nouns.
Highlight Punctuation in Red: Reinforces the use of punctuation at the end of a sentence.
Read: This step allows students to read the passage again and aids in comprehension. Students color the last snowflake after the second read.
On the second page, students need to respond to a question about the information presented in the paragraph. This step enables students to practice going back into the text to answer a question in a complete sentence, and gives them independent handwriting practice.
Finally, students draw a picture to go along with the passage. You can encourage students to label their drawing using words from the passage.
*The sections of this activity can take place over the course of 1-2 days.
