1. Print out the sentence strips on to cardstock, then laminate. Cut into puzzle cards. Best to print in color, but gray scale works fine. This file has generic cards and themed cards.
2. Place cards in centers.
3. Teacher uses a dry erase marker to write a sentence on the puzzle cards – one word per card.
4. Students will form the sentence with the puzzle cards, and then copy the sentence onto the handwriting paper. Some versions of handwriting paper, have draw and write activities.
Teacher can write several subjects (ex. The, A, That, One), etc on the front card. Then could have several words to choose from in the center cards, and several endings.
Ex. The That A
fly buzz make honey.
Students could create several sentences:
The bee will make honey.
That bee can fly.
A bee will buzz.
Higher level version:
Teacher can write a question on the sentence strip cards.
Students can answer the question on the cards by drawing and writing their answer on the handwriting paper.
Teacher should chose the handwriting paper that is best suited for their class.
