This pack includes two handwriting reference sheets (one for uppercase letters and one for lowercase letters).
This pack also contains a practice worksheet for each of the following categories of lowercase letters: short letters like a, e, o, and m; tall letters like h, t, and d; and letters that have a tail like y, q, and p. Answer keys are included for each of the three worksheets.
On the practice pages, students have to look at letters that have been placed correctly and incorrectly on handwriting lines. The incorrect placements are representative of many of the errors my students make in their own handwriting so that they can troubleshoot common handwriting issues. If the letter is placed incorrectly on the line (floating, crossing a line, too tall, too short, etc.), the students have to write the letter correctly on the line that follows. If the letter is already written correctly, students make a smiley face on the line.
This pack helps to build awareness of correct handwriting. It also helps to give students a common vocabulary to use when talking about handwriting. I don't have to be a handwriting drill sergeant - students are constantly able to find their own mistakes or to remind their peers that letters can't fly!
The practice pages make for a great morning warm-up, homework page, literacy center, etc. The reference pages are perfect for students to have at their desk, at a writing center, in a homework folder or writing folder, etc.
