As a class or small group: If your photocopying budget is restricted, you may wish to use blank paper with the initial directions as stated below.

• Give everyone a blank piece of paper.

&diams: Teacher Model:
• Put your name at the top of the paper.
• Draw a line across the paper. When you have made one line, put your pencil on the table.
• The teacher will print the letter that represents the sound to be practiced… and talk about the sound. (e.g.“ Today we will be printing the sound /t/ sound! This is what /t/ looks like.”)

&diams: Teaching Activity
• Hold your pencil in the air… Demonstrate how to air write the /g/ letter as you orally recite the directions provided. (* This is a hang-down letter. Start at the top. Make a caterpillar /c/ sitting on the bottom line. Slide up to the middle. Bounce back down below the line and swing around.) Note: The teacher must scribe as a mirror image. Everyone air writes the letter several times as they repeat the explicit directions. Note: It is important to talk to the children about how “START AT THE TOP” refers to, “Start at the top of the letter.”
Everyone writes.
• Monitor and assist students with the correct formation of the sound.
• Everyone stop!
• Check or circle your best effort.
• Pencils down.
• Begin a new letter.
