Note: Some of my products have some “out there” ideas. Make sure to look at the preview before purchasing. Everyone's classroom is unique and while these lessons work within my classroom, that may not be the case in another’s room.
"Don't you ever worry when you see what's going down?"
"No, I try to mind my business; that is no business at all."
-Dialogue by Chicago
As with any educator, you're always looking for a way to make learning engaging, relevant, and come to life. My newest guide is simplistic in nature. Inspired by the game, Far From Noise, by George Batchelor, which takes a simplistic approach at conveying an individual's struggles to find where they belong.
Therefore, Wake Up Sunshine, is proud to bring you Hanging On the Edge: Video Game Visible Analysis! With this simple and affordable guide, the students can be shown 7 video game clips, from my play through of the game. Then, they analyze the deeper meaning of the clips through various activities, such as Visible Thinking techniques, from Ron Ritchhart and Harvard Project Zero; and some created, on my own.
In my class, I use these 7 activities as mini-lessons of about 10 - 15 minutes, at the beginning of class. The process is pretty simple:
1. Review the activity you’ll be focusing on.
2. Show the embedded clip, by clicking the arrow.
3. Complete the activity.
4. Discuss or conduct a think/pair/share review
While I do not believe these activities are your run-of-the-mill worksheet handouts; they will certainly allow one’s students to think on much higher and analytical levels, providing a deeper learning experience. The students deserve to be inspired to reach for higher levels, so I simply am the guide and watch their minds soar!
