This is a unit plan about Hank Aaron and his historical, record-breaking 715th home run that put him ahead of Babe Ruth in career home runs. Aaron constantly experienced harsh racial bigotry from those indifferent to African-Americans as he neared the record. The purpose of this unit plan is to teach racial tolerance through the life of one of baseball's greatest players: Hammerin' Hank. Students will work to create some sort of project that confronts racial intolerance in a nonbelligerent manner. This can be adjusted to fit many grade levels, but it is strongly recommended that the intense profanity be censored or altered for the younger grades. This lesson is not for the faint of heart.
