Product Description
Do your children need extra practice with retelling stories? Do they love play dough? Do they love to listen to stories? This packet will help to cover many of the “power
standards” of retelling, speaking and listening and writing!

In this packet you will also find, corresponding regular retelling mats, a retelling book and crown. I have my children practice using the playdough first. Using the regular
retelling pieces, they record each other retelling the story using the SeeSaw app on my iPads, so that I can view it. If they retell the story correctly, they get a trip to the
treasure chest! They love it!

The crown, retelling book and writing/retelling paper can be used as extra practice for those who need extra time to master the retelling skill. I have even included some QR codes and response sheets for those children who need to listen to the story multiple times or who are early finishers!

The activities are common core aligned. They cover the following standards:
Common Core standards:
RL.K2. – With prompting and support, I can retell familiar stories, including key
details.
RL.K3. – With prompting and support, I can identify the setting, characters and
key details of a story.
SLK.2- I can confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information
presented orally or through other media by asking and answering questions
about key details and requesting clarification if something is not understood.
SL.K.4- I can describe familiar people, places, things, and events and,
with prompting and support, provide additional detail.
SL.K.5- I can add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions as desired
to provide additional detail.
W.K.1- I can use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion
pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are writing about
and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book (e.g., My favorite book is...).
