Hanukkah is the winter holiday where Jewish children enjoy playing Dreidel to celebrate the great miracle of one day's worth of oil lasting for eight days. It often falls in December close to Christmas but is based on the Jewish calendar so the date varies from year to year. The amazing thing about teaching your students about Hanukkah or any other holiday is that it is the perfect way to demonstrate that we all have family traditions that we partake in and that makes us seem more alike than different.
If you would like to have clear and concise directions on how to play dreidel, this download is just right for you. You will find out about the four Hebrew letters on the sides of the dreidel and what your students do when their dreidel lands upon a Nun, Gimel, Hey, or Shin. Simply add pennies (gelt), raisins, pretzels, or Cheerios. And away your kids go, playing Dreidel!
