Utilizing pocket charts can be such a great way for your emergent readers to feel some independence and begin the journey to reading. This product is a three for one product. Included you will find the following:
*A Hanukkah poem about "dreidels" for your pocket chart in both color and black and white. The colored pieces are to be printed on card stock and cut apart in strips and placed sequentially in your pocket chart. The B&W version are to be cut apart word by word, and then they can cover up the colored strips word by word. Students can work on matching sight words, reading sight words, practicing concepts of print such as left to right progression and top to bottom, and even one to one correspondence with a fancy wand or their reading finger. This activity can be used in literacy centers, small group instruction, or even as a whole group.
*Next you will find a "Memory" game with Hanukkah terms such as menorah, dreidel, gelt, and latkes. There are 16 different pairs of cards. You can use these in the pocket chart or to use in "Memory" format and match the cards. This amount of cards is perfect and doesn't make your game too overwhelming for your youngest of learners.
*Finally, you will find a "Word Bank" full of the Hanukkah terminology your students may need for their holiday writing. These can be run off and put at your writing center or in individual writing folders. And I'm sure there are a ton of other ways to use this so feel free to do what works best for you.
