Math and Social Studies Project Using Critical Thinking and Higher Order Thinking Skills

Enrichment Social Studies and Math Project

During this project, students read and discuss two New York Times Articles that discuss the results of Quality of Life Surveys in both the United States and around the world.

Then students brainstorm and research quality of life indicators in 10 countries of their choice and then rank those 10 countries from happiest to least happy. Students will think critically about factors that would impact a person's happiness and why these factors may differ across different regions. Students will also compile numerical data in order to rank 10 countries from happiest to least happy. There is also the option to use negative and positive integers and to convert data between percentages, ratios and fractions. Students will also gain understanding about different countries and the people who live there.

What’s included:

Teacher Notes explaining the project,

a Powerpoint to explain the project, step by step to students,

a planning sheet, recording sheet, an analysis sheet, and optional number lines

This project would be great as an enrichment project for a small group or for a whole class.
