Celebrating student birthdays is something I always want to do in my classroom. For many of my students, they may not have someone who says happy birthday once they leave school! Birthdays are important to students, so giving them a card and even a treat is a nice thing to do!
There are many options for birthday treats for your kids that are not expensive at all. These include:
suckers, lollipops, sugar sticks
lunch with the teacher
book (check Scholastic for those $1 books)
no homework coupon
I print the birthday cards and then have the other students sign the back of the card before the birthday. On the morning of the birthday I place everything at the student’s desk before they arrive. All of the kids are excited for each other on these days! For summer birthdays, we celebrate on their half birthday. I make a birthday chart for my lesson plan book to help me stay organized.
