I came up with this idea on a whim when I noticed my Littles were just not performing their personal best on their daily handwriting! I knew I needed something more than, “Did you do your personal best handwriting?”, in my back pocket to keep them motivated!
Little learners need excitement to stay engaged and motivated to produce their best work so ta-da, enter the Handwriting Fairy! Now to get this started, you’ll need the Handwriting Fairy to make her first visit to the classroom (you’re the Handwriting Fairy, silly)! All you need is a pair of angel wings, a white tutu, and some creativity! You can get as decked out as you please!
You will set up a “Handwriting Workshop” for the kick-off day and have some student sample pieces hanging around the room for students to “gallery walk”/study. You can then participate in brief discussion of what makes those pieces personal best handwriting! You can get as involved with this as you like!
Attached you will find: motivational notes for your kiddos to receive randomly (sprinkle some fairy dust for some extra fun), sample anchor chart poem to display and/or recreate to hang in the classroom for reference, and rubrics to attach to your student work to send home to parents!
Have fun and be sure to tag me in your #HandwritingFairy posts!
