Thank you for checking out my Happy New Year Literacy and Math Centers Packet. This packet is Common Core Aligned and contains 81 pages of New Year's themed fun!
Here are the six literacy centers:
New Year's Rhymes - Students will take a word pair card and sorting mat. They will decide if the words rhyme or don't rhyme and sort them on the mat. Then they will record their findings and illustrate them.
New Year's Search/Read/Write the Room - (Two versions)Students will look around the room for New Year's Eve themed short vowel word cards or long vowel word cards, depending on the version you pick. They will then record the cards they find on their recording sheet in the appropriate column. On the back of the recording sheet they can illustrate some of the words they found.
Roll and Write a New Year's Word - Students will roll a New Year's themed word and record the word that comes on top. They will continue to roll words until one of the words has "won." On the back of the recording sheet, they will analyze the data and write a sentence.
New Year's Build a Sentence - Students will unscramble word picture cards to build sentences. They will then record their work.
How to Celebrate New Year's Eve Writing Center - Students will write their own "how to" books on how to celebrate New Year's Eve.
New Year's Build a Word - Students will build short vowel words and record and illustrate their work.
Four Math Centers:
Magnify Math - Students will use magnifying glasses to find double facts and make a ten to add number sentences. They will record the number sentences under the correct column on their recording sheets.
Happy New Year's Number Bonds - Students will find the missing numbers in a number bond by using a work mat and counters. They will then complete the number bond and the fact family number sentences.
Happy New Year Craftivity - This can be whole class or as a center. Students will create a penguin or person with a party hat containing a "Make Ten to Add" problem. The penguin or person will be holding a double ten frame to show how the students made ten to add.
New Year's Eve Graphing - This can be whole class or as a center. The students will graph if they stayed up for New Year's Eve to see the ball drop or if they fell asleep.
I hope you and your students enjoy these activities!!
