This booklet just makes me smile every time I look at it! I hope that when your students return to school and see this waiting for them on their desks, they feel welcomed and excited to return to their teachers.
It’s always best to get right back into the routine after a break. I’ve created this booklet for students to work on upon their return after the Christmas holidays. It’s full of engaging activities that they can complete independently. It celebrates the new year ahead while giving students an opportunity to refresh their skills, reflect on the previous year and set some personal goals for the New Year. It also gives teachers an opportunity to focus on getting everyone back on track in terms of classroom routines and expectations for independent work.
This package is also great for us teachers because on that Sunday night, before we all head back, my hope is that you’ll get a good nights rest knowing you have high-quality, engaging tasks for your third and fourth grade students to work on the next day.
This product contains the followin:

*a page to reflect on the year to come and to write about personal goals and hopes for others
*a creative page where students design their own band’s t-shirt (and a pretty funny “band name generator” activity)
*a fill-in-the-blank activity based on developing healthy habits
*an original story with a very positive theme and higher level thinking, open-ended questions (on a second page)
*a page that reviews the difference between facts and opinions

I have designed this product for third and fourth graders, but it would also be appropriate for higher level 2nd graders, 5th graders in need of review and ELL students.
I’ve passed along an extra activity page that I created for some students in my own class. I thought you might like to use it too. We have been talking about features of non-fiction texts and just to get their schema going again, I created this page that reviews captions and labels. It’s quite simple, but I wanted to create something that all students can complete independently and feel good about themselves on that first day back.
