This set of activities is for the Harcourt Trophies story, At Home, Around the World, from the first grade series. These activities can be used for independent practice of skills, small group instruction, or for literacy centers. This unit includes:
A Cozy New Place for Words ~ Students read sentence cards and choose the vocabulary word that best completes each sentence. Students record their words on their answer sheet.
Making Words ~ Students use letter cards to build words and record their words on the recording sheet.
Finding a Home For It (Classifying Items) ~ Students sort picture/word cards into groups of items that belong together. Then students record their sort and label each group of items on their answer sheet.
Making Text to Self Connections~ Students complete a making connections page writing about their home, and illustrating a picture for their writing.
Using Pronouns~ Students read sentence cards and choose the correct pronoun for the underlined word(s). Students record the pronoun on their answer sheet.
Friendly Letters From Home ~ Teachers or students select a writing prompt to write a friendly letter to a friend about homes.
