This set of story activities is for the story Fun with Fish, in the Harcourt Trophies first grade series. Each of the activities includes a recording sheet and can be used for independent skill practice, small group activities, or for literacy centers. This story's activities include:
Fishing for Vocabulary Words ~ Students read sentence cards and choose the correct vocabulary word. Students record the word on their recording sheet.
Swimming with the Facts~ This graphic organizer can be used with any book or story. Students record three details they learned from their reading and draw a picture illustrating one detail.
Fishing for /sh/ Sounds~ Students sort picture cards by words with and words without the /sh/ sound. Then students complete a cut and paste recording sheet.
Making Words ~ Students use letter cards to build words. Students record the words they create.
Hooking Your Reader with Details~ This activity is to help students expand their sentences with details. Students choose six sentence cards and rewrite the sentences adding more detail.
Some Fishy Nouns~ Students sort noun cards into People and Places and record their sort on their answer sheet.
