Product Description
*Harcourt Trophies Grade 1 Daily Tune-Up with the Editing Strategies Racing Team is aligned to kindergarten through 2nd Grade Common Core Standards. It can be used in whole group and small group instruction, literacy workstations, homework, morning work and in writing workshop.

There are 8 strategies:
* Finger Space Sally
* Capitals Carolyn
* Commas Connor
* Ending Punctuation Pete
* Spelling Spencer
* Apostrophe Alex
* Fluency Flo
* Revising Richard

Each editing strategy is represented by a specific color and students use that color when editing. For example: When editing for spelling, students use a blue colored pencil or marker.

The Daily Tune-Ups have a racing theme and have the students do the following:
*Read It! Students read the sentence to see if it makes sense and look for errors.
*Fix It! Use editing strategies to fix mistakes.
*Write It! Write sentence correctly.
*Trace It! Trace letters or words associated with strategy, such as apostrophe or word now spelled correctly. I stop this step as my students become more proficient in the strategies.
*Illustrate It! Draw picture to match sentence.
*Count It! Students can write the number or make tally marks for each time the strategy was used. For “Fluency Flo, they count how many times they orally read the sentence.

At the beginning of year, I model with students using "My Editing Strategies Racing Team" which teaches all eight strategies and is found in my TPT store.
I incorporate speaking and listening skills by having a "Driver of the Week" lead the Daily Tune-Up on a whiteboard as seen on cover picture. Each time a student comes up to use a strategy, they explain why they used that strategy. For example, "I made the letter "J" in Jane a capital letter because names always start with a capital letter."

*There are 170 sentences that increase in difficulty each week. They can be projected onto an interactive whiteboard, wrote on chart paper or regular whiteboard, put into a page protector or given to each student. You do not have to be using the Harcourt Trophies program to find this product beneficial for your students.
