This set of activities is for the Harcourt Trophies story, How to Be a Nature Detective, from the first grade series. These activities can be used for independent practice of specific skills, small group instruction, or for literacy centers. This set includes:
Finding Clues for Missing Words~ Students read sentence cards and choose the correct word to complete the sentence. Students record their words on their answer sheet.
Making Words ~ Students use letter cards to create words with the long o sound. Students record their words on their recording sheet.
Verb Tense Detectives ~ Students read sentence cards with underlined verbs and sort the cards by Past Tense, Present Tense, or Future Tense Verbs. Students record the underlined words in the correct category.
Searching for Vowel Sound Clues~ Students sort word cards by long and short o vowel sounds. Students record their sort on their answer sheet.
Searching Nature for the Main Idea~ Students read 4 short passage cards and match the correct main idea to each passage. Students record the main idea sentence on their answer sheet.
Following the Tracks (Using Am, Is, and Are)~ Students read sentence cards and choose the correct word to complete the sentence. Students record the word on their answer sheet.
