This set of activities is for the story, Me On the Map, from the first grade Harcourt Trophies series. The activities included can be used for independent skill practice, small group instruction, or for literacy centers. Each activity includes a recording sheet for assessment purposes. This unit includes:
Mapping Out New Vocabulary~ Students read sentence cards and choose the vocabulary word that best completes the sentence. Students record the word on their recording sheet.
My Retelling Book ~ Students can use this booklet for any book or story. Students rewrite the story and illustrate pictures for each page. The booklet can be stapled to create a retelling book.
Making Words ~ Students use the letter cards to create words 9 focusing on long /a/ words) and record them on the recording sheet.
Putting it on the Map (Classifying) ~ Students sort picture/word cards into groups of things that belong together. Then students record their sort and create a title for each group of things.
Using Pronouns I and Me~ Students read word cards and choose the correct pronoun to complete the sentence. Students record the pronoun on their recording sheet.
Building Long /a/ Words ~ Students use a long /a/ word mat with a_e to create words using letter cards. Students write their new words on their recording sheet.
