This set of story activities is for the Harcourt Trophies story, On the Way to the Pond, in the first grade series. This set of activities can be used for independent practice of specific skills, small group instruction, or for literacy centers. Each activity included has a recording sheet for assessment purposes. This set includes:
Sorting Words with -er,-ir, and -ur ~ Students sort word cards under the correct heading for the missing r-controlled vowel. Students write the complete word on their recording sheet.
Hippo's Basket Full of Good Words~ Students read vocabulary sentences and choose the word that makes sense in the sentence. Students record the word on their recording sheet.
Setting ~ This graphic organizer can be used with any story or book. Students draw a picture of the main setting of the story and write a few sentences describing it.
Making Words ~ Students create word using letter cards, focusing on words with -er and -ir. Students write down the words they create.
Following the Path to Sequencing ~ Students place story event sentences back in sequential order. Then students complete a graphic organizer describing the beginning, middle, and end.
Tess the Tiger's Common and Proper Noun Sort ~ Students sort cards under common or proper noun heading cards. Then students record their sort on their answer sheet.
