This set of activities is for the story, Tell Me a Story, in the first grade Harcourt Trophies series. These activities can be used for independent skill practice, small group instruction, or as literacy centers. This unit includes:
Sailing Away with Vocabulary ~ Students read sentence cards and choose the correct vocabulary word for each sentence. Students record their words on a recording sheet.
Making Words ~ Students use letter cards to create words, focusing on the long /i/ sound of i_e.
ABC Order Practice ~ Students put three sets of cards into alphabetical order ( including to the second letter). Students record their ABC order on their answer sheet.
Building Words with Long /i/ ~ Students use a long i word mat (i_e) to create words using letter cards. Students record all the words they can make on a recording sheet.
Tell Me About Adjectives~ Students read sentence cards and find the adjective word that describes feelings. Students write the adjective on their answer sheet.
Contraction Match Up~ Students match two halves of a book to correctly match the contraction with the two words that make the contraction. Students record the words on their answer sheet.
Mental Pictures- What I See~ This graphic organizer can be used with any story or book. Students draw a picture of their mental images after reading and write a few sentences describing their mental picture.
