These activities are for the story, Try Your Best, in the Harcourt Trophies first grade series. Each one can be used as a center activity or as independent practice for specific skills. This story unit includes:
Tell Me More (Character Analysis) ~ This graphic organizer can be used with any story or book. Students write two character traits about a character and write a sentence or two describing the character. Students illustrate a picture.
Trying Your Best Sight Word Practice ~ Students read sentence cards and choose the correct word that makes sense in the sentence.
Phoneme Segmentation Sort ~ Students sort picture cards by the number of phonemes heard in the word. Then students complete a recording sheet writing the number of sounds heard in different picture cards.
Making Words ~ Students make words using letter cards.
Scoring with Contractions ~ Students match each soccer ball contraction with its correct goal. Students record their matches on a recording sheet.
Shooting Hoops with Nouns ~ Students sort noun cards into people, places, animals, and things. Then students record their sort on the recording sheet.
